WI State Fair Bucket List | MKE Home
Hi loves!
If you're from Wisconsin, you know that our summers are the best time of year and there is so much to look forward to! With all of the fun coming to an end, there is still one last thing to do to kick off the last month of summer - State Fair!
I'm sure all of my fellow Wisconsinites have had the pleasure of enjoying our wonderful fair, and for any of you who haven't - you need to go! Wisconsin takes their State Fair extremely seriously. From the fun of the activities, shopping, animals, art, and of course the FOOD, you are sure to have a blast! And you can basically find any type of food you can possibly think of fried and on a stick. Haha!
State Fair has always been one of my favorite parts of summer, so I thought it would be a fun blog post idea to share my yearly fair bucket list!
I did get to go on the very first day with my best friend Tati, but I'm hoping to go back with Josh to enjoy the night scene!
Let's just start off with the most important part of the fair, and realistically why most of us even go - the food.
Saz's: Okay this is an obvious choice - if you haven't tried Saz's appetizers you haven't lived! I have been a die hard fan of their mozzarella sticks since I can remember, but the sampler platter is the next best choice since you get a little bit of all of the goodies! Saz's is located in the middle of the fair near the Giant Slide!
Dr. Veggie: This is just a personal favorite of mine, but fried vegetables from Dr. Veggie are always on my list of must-haves, and well probably the closest thing to healthy I will eat the whole day! Haha. I usually get the sampler to share which comes with a mix of fried mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, and onion rings with ranch dip. Even if veggies aren't your thing, I encourage you to try these! The stand is located on the main food road as you head down to the Midway!
WI Milk Stand: This is just a given when you're in the dairy state, a tall glass of fresh, flavored Wisconsin milk! My personal favorite is always the strawberry, but I love trying the new flavors each year. Plus, they're only 50 cents! You really can't go wrong here. The stand is located right across from the Expo building.
WI Baked Potato: If you're a baked potato fan (really though, who isn't?), you will absolutely love our WI Baked Potato. I personally love it with everything on it - butter, sour cream, cheese (the good melty kind), fresh bacon bits, and whatever other toppings you desire! You have to go to the actual potato stand inside the WI Products Pavilion though, don't be fooled and end up with one from an imposter stand - this is the best one!
Corn on the Cob: When the majority of our state is farmlands, you know we'll have the best , fresh corn on the cob! You have to get one of these when visiting, or your trip just isn't complete. The stand is located right in the center of the grounds - it's huge, so you definitely won't miss it.
Deep Fried Oreos: These are probably a heart attack in a bite, but they are just SO good. You can find them just about anywhere throughout the fair. If it sounds gross to you, just try them and thank me later.
Fresh Squeezed Lemonade: I'm not sure if this is a local thing, but you have to go to one of the fresh squeezed lemonade stands, they're green and yellow and don't sell anything else but lemonade. I don't need to say anything else about this because it's just that good.
I know there are so many other goods at the fair, or the classic favorite, the cream puff (I'm not a fan), but I figured I would share my favorites and what I get every year!
Another fun part of the fair is the Expo Building. This is where you can do all of your shopping and find fun new products to try! I like to spend majority of my time by the Chopper or Vitamix stand waiting for the next round of samples. Haha!
I also love exploring the Agricultural Building across from the Expo Building. This building has all of the fun fair entries like floral displays, photography, art, cake decorating, baked goods, etc.
And of course, you have to see the animals! My favorite is always the horses or the birthing barn (where baby chicks are hatching or baby pigs are born). Aside from those, there's cows, sheep, chickens, bunnies, pigs, basically every farm animal you can think if. I'm an animal lover, and although it doesn't always smell the best, I still love admiring the gorgeous animals!
Last but not least, the rides down in the midway are always the most fun part about festivals! I suggest waiting until night to go down here so it's not a bunch of young kids and it's not so hot!
Well, that's all I have on my State Fair bucket list! We have such a huge and fun-filled fair, so it's definitely something to take advantage of every summer. If you're not a regular fair-goer, I hope this helped you gain some insight on what to expect. Or if you are, I hope this helped maybe spark something new to try!
I'm curious to know all of your State Fair favorites! Or if you're not from WI, what your fair is like! Feel free to leave a comment below, or send me a message!
As always, thanks for reading and be sure to subscribe to keep up!
